A cross junction ahead
Heading left?
Straight?
or Right?
How many times in our lives we need to make a decision.
Sometimes we choose 1 and U turn and go back to square 1.
wHY?
Obstacles at the path we chosen present?

Is that really a obstacle physically or
we see it as obstacle in our mind...

What obstacles are in our lives?
In every aspect our lives,
we make decision,
big or small
leads to another decision.
We nv stop making decisions
Every decision behind is an obstacle
big or small
we are creating it ourselves.
What im trying to say is
IF we think its hard its hard.
IF we think is difficult its difficult
IF we think its possible its possible.
its how badly we want something in our lives
Its always so easy to say no.
its a human instinct.
we need to defend ourselves.
BUT tats wat make us inauthentic in our actions
and thoughts.
We complain people being fake in their actions.
But we think it is, den it is.... why we need to
make ourselves miserable becos of someone action?
isnt it silly?

IF we set barrier in our thoughts, our actions
will we ever get to the other side of the path smoothly?
no....
no matter what path we choose in our lives, there bound
to be obstacles... how big it is, its all in our mind.
Why there are only 1% of the world population
are successful ppl? not becos they are lucky
but they think extraordinary and do things extraordinary.
So what will life be? you decide.

Greedy ppl?

So Insurance Agents are greedy people who earn huge commissions, do minimal work, and then go for all expense paid vacations using YOUR money.I understand there are people who believe this is the case. And you are not to be faulted for having this perception, because this is perhaps how certain people in this industry portray themselves to be. Maybe.I will not try to vehemently defend my industry and the people who work in it, but for the sake of argument, I’ll list out a couple of facts about life as an Insurance Agent from my personal knowledge and experience to try and debunk this perception :

Our commissions are not paid by you, the customer. They are paid to us by the company we represent at a rate the company deems fair. Agents are required to disclose to you how much money they are making from your sale, if you wish them to.

Our work is not minimal. Form filling, claims processing, continual training to provide better service to the public, these are things that agents do which are not seen. And best of all, we don't get paid for doing these things. Now I'm sure some of you may be saying :"But Angry Mr Jones, my agent damn free one leh, everyday see him at coffeeshop drink kopi! Somemore got money go holiday!"Life as an Insurance Agent is as they say, 'Own Time Own Target'. Sure i can sit at home all day or go out with my mates to have fun every night. Just no income.

Ever had to stand outside a potential client's place for 3 hours? And then leaving without the sale? I have."Aiya AMJ, who ask you to become Agent in the first place? See la, kenna this kind of treatment. Serves you right!"Just to illustrate a point, this are some of the pains an Insurance Agent may have to go through in his course of work. Waiting 3 hours to get rejected is quite a painful experience, but i believe most of us Agents accept it, learn from the experience, and move on.

Going on overseas trips is a form of reward insurance companies usually give to the VERY BEST people in their companies. To be the VERY BEST is not easy, the amount of business the agent in question has to process is very large. Taking into consideration the 3 points listed above, to go on one of those trips most probably means that agent went through a lot of what was listed above to get there.

He also most probably got many people insured or set up worthwhile financial plans for his clients. In the process of doing that, he also most probably secured for his company a good amount of premiums which equals to profitability. As a reward, his company sends him on a holiday. It is corporate commonsense to reward your best people, it should be the same for Insurance companies.

At the end of it all, if the perception about greedy insurance agents still exists, why not challenge yourself to try out this job for 1 year.“SIAO AH?! Become Insulant Agen! Nothing better to do meh?”If the industry was really so rosy then this response wouldn’t be commonplace among folks. As it is, there are bad apples in every basket. I'm certain there are greedy insurance agents out there, just as there are greedy hawkers and greedy contractors and greedy...

yea u get the idea. The relevant authorities and stat boards, with regards to the financial industry are doing their very best to ensure that you, the consumer, gets the best deal possible.

Diversifying

“Don’t put all your eggs in one basket” is a tag line used in many circles, especially when it comes to investing. How true is that statement?A school of thought that is popular with investors is to diversify your portfolio, so that if one particular asset suffers, your general portfolio will not be heavily hit. The whole idea of diversification is risk control.

These are some choice statements about diversification from Warren Buffett. We think diversification, as practiced generally, makes very little sense for anyone who knows what they’re doing. Diversification serves as protection against ignorance.-Warren Buffett, at Berkshire’s 1996 Annual MeetingWe diversify substantially less than most investment operations.

We might invest up to 40% of our net worth in a single security under conditions coupling an extremely high probability that our facts and reasoning are correct with a very low probability that anything could drastically change the underlying value of the investment."-Warren Buffett, 1965 letter to PartnersWe have to work extremely hard to find just a very few attractive investment situations. Such a situation by definition is one where my expectation of performance is at least ten percentage points per annum superior to the Dow.-Warren Buffett, 1965 letter to Partners

The full 1965 Letter to Partners by Warren Buffet can be read here From the investor who has made the most money in the history of the world from the stock market, this is a total reverse from the conventional train of thought. To summarise the 3 statements by Warren Buffett posted here, and books from him and Benjamin Graham, one key factor to succeed in the stock market is a high level of research and studies into the array of options, to identify the ones which are HIGHLY (close to certainty) probable to succeed.I have to admit, when it comes to personally investing in the stock market, I’m pretty much a babe in the woods.

This is because I spend my ‘education time’ on other areas and not in reading up on companies and indexes. Venturing into stocks and shares, though tempting, would be financial suicide for me.Would I be successful if I put my time into studying up companies to invest in? Then again would I trust my judgement enough to put money into that one stock? I know myself enough to reckon the answer to both would be no. That’s why I don’t work as a stock broker ;)If you purchase unit trusts or investment linked insurance products, the funds are already well diversified in the sector or region you have chosen.

My personal investment linked insurance policy (ILP) invests in 2 funds which automatically puts my money into 16 diverse sectors. If you’re thinking of investing in an ILP, consider the words from Warren Buffett before spreading out your monthly investments into many different funds. Ask your Financial Planner for a breakdown of how your money will be invested in the particular fund he has recommended to you. A person very close to me worked in the crude oil industry for 25 years, mainly as a senior oil rig engineer. During that time, he focused his investments specifically on oil based commodities and oil field companies (Chevron, BP) because he had an insight and to a certain extent, insiders information on the trends of the fuel industry. He is now happily retired. He never put a single cent in other sectors or unit trusts. To summarise, diversification has worked for some investors including a prominent local millionaire. On the other hand, the greatest investor of all time plays down the value of diversification.Should you divest when investing?

The answer would depend on your knowledge of the asset in question, and how much time and effort you are willing to put in to studying the available options. If you’re like me and don’t have the time (the want rather) to put in the necessary effort, you would perhaps be better off investing your money in vehicles that do not require personal monitoring, while keeping what you have learned in mind when making those decisions.

Something Interesting

Its not to one's surprise when many people think of this:

they think of this: the middle finger
And we all know why, most of you associate financial planning to pushy financial services consultant / insurance agents. There's always this preconceived notion that we are just trying to suck your money by peddling our products to you. We cant really blame you, neither can you really blame us.
Because some of us are trained in such a way that financial planning is all about recommending products to suit your financial needs / goals. Thats where our money come in, you see. The thing is, financial planning is totally not about that at all.I'll like to debunk this term 'financial planning' or at least taking away its negative connotation.
ITS NOT ALL ABOUT BUYING AND BUYING SOME INVESTMENT PRODUCT OR SOME SAVING PLANS OR SOME INSURANCE POLICIES TO MEET YOUR FINANCIAL GOALS OR WHAT.
I cannot emphasize this any further, financial planning doesnt start from your needs and wants. It starts from how much you have, how much you are currently spending, how much you are saving etc. In other words, it starts from your money cashflow management.I dont want to shamelessly promote my industry but I think financial planning or rather financial education is very very important. In fact I feel our schools are lacking in financial education (talking about Primary and Secondary).
We have sex education, what about money? What, the problem of unwanted pregnancies more prevailing than people on unpayable debts? Compare a young teenage parent to a bankrupt. If you have to choose, which you rather be?I'm not saying sex education is not important, I'm saying both are equally important. Look at today's financial crisis, if we are all equip with proper financial education from young, would we be in today's situation?
In fact if you learn a thing or two about financial education, not only you dont have to worry about your expenses, end of day when you retire, you'll be surprised the amount of savings you have :P I come to know of a mentor of mine who told me he actually got his HDB flat for free. I'm serious! Not that the government literally gave it to him for free, but with a little financial knowledge, he knew how to turn his asset to generate money for him. That money was used to offset his HDB installments. Eventually, is he paying for his HDB? Nope :)
If you are still skeptical about talking to an agent about learning financial knowledge, at least go and buy or borrow some books on it. Trust me it is really really useful! :)
